Azerbaijan’s Diaspora Committee Chairman Meets Azerbaijani Community in Washington

Washington

Washington, August 23, 2026 – The Europe Today: Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Diaspora Fuad Muradov has met with representatives of the Azerbaijani community and young people in Washington and several US states as part of his visit to the United States.

The meeting brought together active members of the Azerbaijani diaspora, community representatives and youth from across the country.

The event opened with the national anthems of Azerbaijan and the United States, followed by a minute of silence in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Participants also watched a documentary highlighting the role of the Azerbaijani diaspora during the Second Karabakh War.

Addressing the gathering, Fuad Muradov said strengthening institutional development, improving coordination among Azerbaijani communities and promoting the values of “Azerbaijanism” remain among the key priorities of the State Committee.

He noted that the expansion of Azerbaijani Houses, weekend schools and diaspora platforms demonstrates an increasing emphasis on engaging younger generations and strengthening ties between Azerbaijani communities abroad and their homeland.

Muradov praised the organization and activities of the Azerbaijani community in the United States and highlighted the establishment of the US-Azerbaijan Alliance. He called on community members to further strengthen cooperation and actively contribute to the platform’s activities.

The Committee Chairman said the role of diaspora organizations is increasingly extending beyond traditional advocacy efforts to include scientific forums, cultural exhibitions and professional networking initiatives.

He reaffirmed the committee’s readiness to support diaspora-led projects aimed at strengthening cooperation among Azerbaijani youth and professionals living abroad.

During the meeting, Muradov presented the “For Service in Diaspora Activity” medal to Sevda Tahirli and Elmar Bayramov in recognition of their contributions to diaspora activities.

Representatives of Azerbaijani diaspora organizations and youth groups subsequently presented new community initiatives, outlining their objectives, scope and expected impact.

The meeting concluded with an open discussion and interactive question-and-answer session, during which Muradov responded to participants’ questions, listened to their proposals and exchanged views on key issues concerning the Azerbaijani diaspora in the United States.
