OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Visits Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis

Baku, September 04, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Pere Joan Pons Sampietro visited Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis on September 3, where he held discussions on regional peace, parliamentary cooperation and emerging geopolitical developments.

During the meeting, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Affairs Samad Seyidov highlighted cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, as well as efforts to strengthen peace and confidence in the region.

Seyidov also shared views on the Assembly’s activities in the region and emphasized Azerbaijan’s role in supporting peace and stability.

Pere Joan Pons Sampietro underscored Azerbaijan’s strategic geopolitical importance, noting its growing economic and logistical connectivity with Europe and the potential for further strengthening parliamentary diplomacy.

He highlighted Azerbaijan’s role in major international economic and transport projects across the wider region, as well as its position as a reliable energy supplier to Europe.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President also welcomed Azerbaijan’s approach to relations with Armenia and its efforts to advance peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

During his visit, Sampietro also met with members of Azerbaijan’s delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

MP Gaya Mammadov briefed the meeting on the South Caucasus peace process, regional economic opportunities and the importance of sustained international dialogue.

Azerbaijani delegates Azay Guliyev, Sevinj Fataliyeva and Tural Ganjaliyev exchanged views on changing geopolitical realities, ongoing peace talks, regional connectivity and the threat posed by landmines in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.

Sampietro commended the regional peacebuilding process and stressed the importance of adapting the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to evolving geopolitical circumstances and supporting efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace and stability in the region.
