Ashgabat, September 12, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov will attend the first “Central Asia–Republic of Korea” summit, Turkmen state media reported.
The announcement was made during a regular digital meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, where Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov briefed the President on preparations for his upcoming state visit to the Republic of Korea and participation in the inaugural summit.
According to the report, a number of bilateral agreements and other documents are expected to be signed during the state visit. The agreements are set to cover a wide range of areas, including economic cooperation, investment, transport and logistics, the chemical industry, infrastructure, industrial construction, environmental protection, water management, science and education.
Turkmenistan’s relations with the Republic of Korea have been developing steadily within the framework of the “Central Asia–Republic of Korea” Cooperation Forum. Turkmenistan chaired the forum in 2023, while its 16th meeting was held in Ashgabat.
Meredov said preparations for the state visit and the summit are progressing and expressed confidence that the outcomes of the visit would contribute to further strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Following the report, President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the Republic of Korea is one of Turkmenistan’s close partner countries. He instructed relevant officials to ensure thorough preparations for the state visit and the first “Central Asia–Republic of Korea” summit.
