Chinese Film “Upstream” Dominates Box Office on Opening Day with 38.69 Million Yuan

Beijing, August 11, 2024, The Europe Today: The Chinese film “Upstream,” directed by Xu Zheng, secured the top position on the Chinese mainland’s daily box office chart on its release day, generating 38.69 million yuan (approximately 5.42 million U.S. dollars) on Friday, as reported by the China Movie Data Information Network.

Upstream tells the compelling story of a middle-aged man who, after being laid off from a tech company, becomes a food delivery driver. With the support of his friends in the industry, he eventually regains his courage and confidence. By 6 p.m. on Saturday, the film had grossed 112 million yuan, according to box office tracker Dengta Data.

Following Upstream on the daily box office chart was the domestic comedy “Successor,” which earned approximately 32.31 million yuan on Friday. This brings its cumulative box office total to 2.84 billion yuan over 25 days.

The domestic historical drama “Decoded” claimed the third spot, earning 12.99 million yuan on Friday.

The total box office revenue across the Chinese mainland on Friday reached around 106.96 million yuan.
