Ashgabat, September 04, 2024, The Europe Today: Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov held a meeting with the delegation led by Sultan Raev, Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), to discuss key areas of cooperation and cultural partnership. The meeting, held on September 3, was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The discussions focused on the significant themes and events scheduled for 2024, a landmark year for Turkmenistan in the Turkic-speaking world. This year, TURKSOY has declared 2024 as the “Year of the Great Poet and Thinker of the Turkic World – Magtymguly Fragi,” commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of the celebrated Turkmen poet and classic of Eastern literature. Additionally, the ancient Turkmen city of Anau has been selected as the cultural capital of the Turkic world for 2024.
Both sides emphasized the importance of organizing joint events to promote the works and legacy of Magtymguly Fragi, as well as highlighting the cultural significance of Anau. These efforts aim to preserve, study, and disseminate the rich cultural heritage of the Turkic-speaking peoples on a global scale.
The meeting reaffirmed the successful cooperation between Turkmenistan and TURKSOY, with both parties expressing their commitment to furthering cultural exchanges and partnerships within the framework of the Turkic-speaking community.
As Turkmenistan takes on a prominent role in TURKSOY’s activities this year, the collaboration is expected to enhance the visibility and appreciation of the country’s cultural heritage within the broader Turkic world.
