Baku, October 17, 2024 – The Europe Today: On Thursday, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev inspected the ongoing preparations for COP29 at the Baku Olympic Stadium, as reported by NHC.
Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President, briefed the head of state on the status of the venue preparations, emphasizing the rapid progress being made. The construction and installation work is nearing completion, with plans to hand over the site to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) by the scheduled deadline.
During his visit, President Aliyev received updates on the organization of the World Leaders’ Climate Action Summit, slated for the early days of the COP29 conference. The President closely examined the infrastructure and facilities, which include advanced information technology systems, robust security measures, and the implementation of green energy solutions to power the venue. He also reviewed the participant registration process and other ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring the event’s success.
The President was further briefed on the developments in the COP29 Green Zone, where initiatives focusing on sustainability and climate action will be showcased. In addition, he toured the Media Center, which is being equipped to accommodate the large number of media representatives expected to cover the event. Many prestigious global media outlets have already been accredited for the conference.
President Aliyev provided directives to ensure the timely and successful completion of all remaining preparations, underscoring Azerbaijan’s commitment to hosting a world-class event that will contribute to global climate efforts.
