OGT 2024 Conference and Exhibition Opens in Ashgabat with Presidential Address

Ashgabat, October 23, 2024 – The Europe Today: The International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2024” (OGT 2024) has commenced today in Ashgabat. A message from the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, was addressed to the forum participants, underscoring the significance of the event for the advancement of the country’s fuel and energy sector.

The participants of the international conference and exhibition were congratulated by the president on the opening of the event, which is being held under the motto, “The Treasure of the Mind of Magtymguly Fragi.” It was noted that the annual exhibition and conference serve as a platform for the constructive discussion of key priorities in the development of the domestic fuel and energy complex. Methods for fostering mutually beneficial partnerships, introducing new technologies into the oil and gas sector, and modernizing production were also highlighted. Visitors to the specialized exhibition were given the opportunity to become acquainted with innovations and new projects.

It was emphasized that independent Turkmenistan, possessing vast hydrocarbon reserves, seeks to use its natural resources not only for national interests but also for the benefit of other peoples in the region and the world. The consolidation of efforts was stressed as a crucial factor in achieving these objectives.

Positive progress in expanding international partnerships in the fuel and energy sector was mentioned, with a focus on the diversification of export potential and the establishment of an extensive pipeline network, central to Turkmenistan’s energy strategy. The Galkynyş gas field, recognized as one of the largest in terms of reserves of natural gas, was identified as a raw material base for the diversification of natural gas exports. It was noted that its development through foreign investment ensures both the reliability of gas reserves and the return of investment. Proposals from foreign partners are always welcomed by the Turkmen side, considering the interests of all parties.

Attention was drawn to the recent initiation of significant projects in Mary velayat, including the Serhetabat-Herat section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project and the Şatlyk-1 gas compressor station. These projects are designed to strengthen regional energy security, enhance the welfare of neighboring nations, and create a stable economic environment. The continuation of such projects was confirmed.

Furthermore, it was emphasized that the identification of new oil and gas condensate deposits and the increase of industrial reserves are successfully being addressed in Turkmenistan. Efforts to improve the efficiency of geological exploration and accelerate the development of reservoirs through foreign investment were highlighted.

The president also noted the ongoing collaboration with foreign companies in the development of underground storage facilities, supported by scientific advancements and new technologies. The importance of not only increasing hydrocarbon extraction but also processing it into high-quality, environmentally friendly products was stressed, with extensive international cooperation being established in this field.

Finally, it was expressed that Turkmenistan offers significant opportunities for those interested in equal and mutually beneficial cooperation. Foreign businesses were encouraged to invest in promising projects due to the country’s economic stability.

The president expressed confidence that the international conference and exhibition would facilitate the exchange of experiences and opinions between domestic experts and foreign partners, contributing to future cooperation.
