Turkmen Foreign Minister Reports on 15th Turkmen-Japanese Economic Cooperation Meeting

Ashgabat, December 23, 2024 – The Europe Today: During a Cabinet of Ministers meeting on Saturday, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov presented a detailed report on the outcomes of the 15th joint meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation, as reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH).

The meeting underscored the growing partnership between the two nations across various sectors, including trade and economics, oil and gas, chemical industries, and “green” energy. Highlighting the shared commitment to sustainable development, the Turkmen delegation proposed consultations on joint lending for decarbonization projects, encouraging Japanese companies to export goods produced in Turkmenistan, and leveraging Japan’s expertise in hydrogen and “green” energy technologies.

In addition, discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in transportation, communications, construction, and the electric power industry. A significant proposal was made to establish a working group for transitioning the gas turbine power plant in Lebap velayat to a combined format. The Turkmen side also suggested organizing a presentation by Japanese companies showcasing cutting-edge water management equipment.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a Protocol and seven additional documents, signifying both parties’ readiness to pursue joint initiatives.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening ties with Japan and directed the Cabinet to intensify efforts in advancing trade, economic, and investment partnerships.

This development marks another milestone in the robust Turkmen-Japanese relationship, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration in key economic and technological domains.
