Saudi Arabia and Syria Hold High-Level Talks in Riyadh

Riyadh, January 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with his Syrian counterpart Asaad Al-Shaibani on Thursday in Riyadh to discuss developments in Syria, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Prince Faisal reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s steadfast support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. He emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing security, stability, and prosperity for the Syrian people, while also highlighting efforts to strengthen Syrian state institutions and enhance their capabilities.

The discussions also addressed Syria’s reintegration into the Arab and Islamic worlds, reflecting the Kingdom’s broader regional strategy to promote unity and stability.

Senior Saudi officials, including Prince Musab bin Mohammed Al-Farhan and ambassadors Saud Al-Sati and Faisal Al-Majfal, attended the meeting, underscoring the importance of the dialogue.

Al-Shaibani, who arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday with a high-level Syrian delegation, was accompanied by Defense Minister Marahf Abu Qasra and Intelligence Chief Anas Khattab. The delegation was welcomed at King Khalid International Airport by Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji.

This visit marks a significant milestone for Syria, as it is Al-Shaibani’s first foreign trip since the removal of former Syrian President Bashar Assad on December 8.

The talks signal a renewed effort by Saudi Arabia to foster stability in Syria and the region, building on its diplomatic engagements to promote peace and cooperation among Arab nations.
