Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Meets Prince Albert II in Monaco

Monaco, January 22, 2025 – The Europe Today: The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, visited the Principality of Monaco on Monday for high-level discussions with Prince Albert II. Turkmenistan’s official media reported the details of the visit on Tuesday.

Upon his arrival at the Prince’s Palace, an official reception ceremony was held, followed by photographs with Prince Albert II and Princess Stéphanie in the “Honor Guard” hall. Discussions centered on fostering bilateral cooperation in various fields, including humanitarian projects, culture, sports, and tourism.

Cultural Collaboration and Circus Arts Recognition

A notable highlight of the visit was the emphasis on circus arts, particularly the participation of the Turkmen group Galkynyş in the International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo. The group earned the prestigious Gold Award, reflecting the exceptional mastery of Turkmen circus performers and strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.

Focus on Environmental and Humanitarian Initiatives

The dialogue also included discussions on environmental collaboration, with a focus on climate issues. Berdimuhamedov proposed partnerships between the Princess Grace Foundation and the Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care, which bears his name. This collaboration aims to support humanitarian efforts and children in need.

Renewed Space Cooperation

Space exploration emerged as another critical area of potential cooperation. Berdimuhamedov acknowledged Monaco’s pivotal role in providing an orbital position for the launch of the TürkmenÄlem 52oE satellite a decade ago. With the current agreement set to expire in 2030, Turkmenistan expressed readiness to discuss extending the partnership and exploring new opportunities in space technology.

Milestone in Bilateral Relations

This year marks the tenth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Monaco, established in 2015, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality. Over the years, Monaco has supported Turkmenistan’s initiatives for global peace and sustainable development at the United Nations.

The visit underscored the commitment of both nations to deepening cooperation across various sectors. Wishing continued success in these endeavors, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov departed from the Principality.
