President Ilham Aliyev Inspects Renovated “Vatan” Sports Lyceum in Baku

Baku, February 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev inspected the newly renovated “Vatan” Sports Lyceum, named after First Karabakh War martyr Tarlan Heybatov, during a visit to Baku. Emin Amrullayev, Minister of Science and Education, provided the head of state with a briefing on the extensive improvements made to the facility.

Established in 2022 on the foundation of Secondary School No. 126, the lyceum has a capacity to accommodate 600 students. The reconstruction, funded through state capital investments, was completed in December 2024, bringing the institution up to modern educational and athletic standards.

The fully renovated academic building now features 22 classrooms, each equipped with essential teaching materials to ensure high-quality education. Additionally, the facility houses chemistry, physics, and biology laboratories, an informatics room, a pre-conscription military training classroom, a library, and a 240-seat assembly hall, along with administrative and auxiliary rooms.

Enhancing its status as a specialized sports institution, the lyceum’s sports complex has been significantly upgraded. The multi-purpose sports hall has been fully refurbished to accommodate various disciplines, including basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, and fencing, alongside a wrestling hall. Further improvements include a newly equipped gym, judo hall, physiotherapy room, rehabilitation sports hall, steam room, and auxiliary spaces.

A newly renovated 100-bed dormitory building has been added to provide accommodation for students, particularly those from regional areas engaged in professional sports. The dining hall, with a capacity of 220 people, along with the kitchen, laundry, and auxiliary rooms, has been modernized with the latest equipment to support the needs of students and staff.

The lyceum offers classes for grades 5 through 11, with approximately 60 teachers dedicated to the education and training of students. Special measures have been introduced to ensure that students engaged in professional sports receive nutritionally balanced meals to support their athletic development.

As part of the renovation project, extensive landscaping work has been carried out in the lyceum’s yard, providing a well-maintained and pleasant environment for students and faculty.

The revitalization of the “Vatan” Sports Lyceum underscores Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering education and athletic excellence, ensuring that young talents receive the necessary support to excel in both academics and sports.
