Alysa Liu Claims Women’s Title at 2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships

Boston, March 29, 2025 – The Europe Today: Alysa Liu of the United States made history on Friday by clinching the women’s singles title at the 2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Boston, becoming the first American woman in 19 years to secure the prestigious title.

Performing to Donna Summer’s MacArthur Park Suite, Liu maintained her dominance from the short program and delivered an impressive free skate featuring six triple jumps. She achieved a personal best total score of 222.97 points, securing the gold medal. Japan’s three-time defending champion, Kaori Sakamoto, earned silver with 217.98 points, while her compatriot Mone Chiba claimed the bronze medal.

In the ice dance event, American pair Madison Chock and Evan Bates topped the rhythm dance segment with a score of 90.18. Canada’s Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier followed in second place with 86.44 points, while Britain’s Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson secured third with 83.86 points.

China’s ice dance duo, Ren Junfei and Xing Jianing, failed to advance to the free dance, finishing 31st among 36 pairs with a score of 56.05 points.

The Chinese figure skating team participated in multiple disciplines, including women’s singles, men’s singles, and ice dance at this year’s championships. However, only men’s skater Dai Dawei progressed beyond the initial round, earning China a spot in the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games. The Chinese team will have another opportunity to secure additional Olympic qualifications at a selection event scheduled for September in Beijing.

The 2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships continue on Saturday with the free dance and men’s free skate events, promising further thrilling performances as the competition reaches its climax.
