Malaysia, Pakistan Push for Stronger Economic Ties via Joint Commission

Islamabad, May 5, 2025 — The Europe Today: In a step toward strengthening bilateral economic relations, Mr. Mohd Syafik Firdaus, Deputy Head of Mission at the High Commission of Malaysia in Pakistan, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Sajid Manzoor Asadi, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, at his office on Monday.

The meeting focused on advancing the establishment of a Joint Economic Commission (JEC), a proposed institutional framework aimed at enhancing and deepening Malaysia–Pakistan economic cooperation. Both sides discussed prospective agenda items for the Commission, outlining key sectors of mutual interest including trade facilitation, investment promotion, development partnerships, and collaboration in emerging industries.

During the discussion, Mr. Syafik and Mr. Sajid reaffirmed the strong and longstanding ties between Malaysia and Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of expanding both economic and people-to-people connections. The dialogue also explored innovative avenues for collaboration that align with both countries’ visions for inclusive and sustainable growth.

As part of the meeting, Mr. Sajid extended an invitation to Mr. Syafik to visit Sialkot, Pakistan’s industrial and export powerhouse, to witness its manufacturing excellence and explore new partnership opportunities. In return, Mr. Syafik invited Mr. Sajid to visit Malaysia to experience the country’s vibrant economy, rich cultural landscape, and dynamic business environment.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing optimism about the future of Malaysia–Pakistan relations and a shared commitment to translating diplomatic goodwill into concrete economic and developmental outcomes.
