Elchin Amirbayov Underscores Rising Strategic Importance of Middle Corridor

Antalya, April 18, 2026 – The Europe Today: A panel discussion titled “New Opportunities in Connectivity” was held as part of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye, bringing together senior officials and experts to explore emerging trends in global connectivity and regional cooperation.

The session featured prominent speakers including Elchin Amirbayov, Timčo Mucunski, A. Berris Ekinci, and Emanuele Giaufret.

Addressing the forum, Elchin Amirbayov highlighted Azerbaijan’s strategic location along key transit corridors, underscoring the growing importance of diversifying export routes amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.

He emphasized the significance of the Middle Corridor as a major intercontinental transport route linking Asia and Europe, describing it as a cost-effective, secure, and efficient connection. “Amid increasing market volatility and geopolitical tensions, what was once considered an alternative route is now becoming a vital artery of global trade,” he noted.

Amirbayov also pointed to changing regional dynamics, stating that following Azerbaijan’s restoration of its territorial integrity and sovereignty, new opportunities for connectivity and cooperation have emerged, including prospects for improved regional integration.

Other panelists highlighted the importance of enhancing global trade routes and infrastructure networks, stressing that unlocking their full potential requires addressing technical, legal, and investment challenges through strengthened multilateral cooperation.

The discussion formed part of the forum’s broader theme of navigating global uncertainty, showcasing how enhanced regional connectivity can contribute to economic development, stability, and resilience across participating countries.
