Azerbaijan, Asian Development Bank Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Digital and Sustainable Agriculture

Baku, May 8, 2026 – The Europe Today: Representatives of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Asian Development Bank held talks on expanding cooperation in sustainable and technology-driven agriculture on the sidelines of the 5th Agribusiness Development Forum.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Ilhama Gadimova highlighted Azerbaijan’s progress in the digital transformation of the agricultural sector, including the application of artificial intelligence, development of farmer-oriented services and promotion of climate-resilient farming practices.

She stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation to support innovation and sustainability in agriculture.

ADB representative Jiangfeng Zhang stated that cooperation with Azerbaijan remains a priority for the Bank and expressed interest in expanding joint initiatives in sustainable agriculture, innovation and water resource management.

The discussions focused on a range of issues, including digitalization and artificial intelligence in agriculture, data-driven farmer support systems, irrigation modernization, water management, agricultural insurance and financing, as well as climate-resilient farming methods.

The two sides also exchanged views on the implementation of pilot projects, the development of “smart village” and “smart farmer” models, and the adoption of Asian best practices in livestock breeding and agricultural production.
