South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, Japanese PM Takaichi Sanae to Hold Summit in Andong

Andong, May 17, 2026 – The Europe Today: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will hold a summit meeting on Tuesday in the South Korean city of Andong, according to an announcement from Lee’s office on Sunday.

The presidential office said the meeting would provide a meaningful opportunity to further deepen mutual trust, friendship and bilateral cooperation between South Korea and Japan.

The summit will take place in President Lee’s hometown of Andong and follows the leaders’ first summit held in January in Prime Minister Takaichi’s hometown in Japan.

Officials said the visit will be treated as a state occasion and will include an official dinner as well as traditional cultural performances aimed at highlighting the shared cultural ties and friendship between the two neighbouring nations.
