Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Lee Jae Myung Hold High-Level Talks in Seoul

Seoul, September 16, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung held high-level talks in Seoul during Berdimuhamedov’s state visit to the Republic of Korea, Turkmen state media reported Tuesday.

An official welcoming ceremony for President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was held at Cheongwadae, the presidential office and residence. Following the ceremony, the two leaders held a one-on-one meeting, which was subsequently expanded to include official delegations from Turkmenistan and South Korea.

The discussions focused on the current state and prospects of Turkmen-South Korean relations, with particular emphasis on expanding trade and economic cooperation.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s interest in broadening cooperation with South Korea across a range of sectors, including investment, trade, energy, industry, the chemical sector, rail transport, artificial intelligence, science and technology, water resources management and environmental protection.

Transport cooperation was also highlighted during the talks. Turkmenistan is developing transport, transit and logistics infrastructure with its international partners along the East-West and North-South corridors. In this context, Ashgabat expressed support for the participation of South Korean companies in relevant infrastructure projects.

The two sides also discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation in science and education, as well as strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties.

During the talks, President Berdimuhamedov invited President Lee Jae Myung to visit Turkmenistan next year.

Following the negotiations, the two presidents reaffirmed their interest in further strengthening Turkmen-South Korean cooperation in priority areas and expanding bilateral engagement.

On the same day, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Political Science by Sungkyunkwan University in recognition of his engagement in international cooperation and relations.
