Peshawar, August 03, 2026 – The Europe Today: At least 15 people, including six police personnel, were killed and dozens of others injured in a suicide bombing outside Kabal Police Station in Pakistan’s Swat district on Sunday, authorities said.
According to police officials, the attacker attempted to enter the police station but was intercepted by security personnel before reaching the premises. The bomber then detonated explosives at the station’s main gate, where a peace rally organised by local residents was taking place nearby.
District Police Officer Muhammad Omer said the victims included six police officers, while at least nine civilians were among those killed. More than 30 people sustained injuries, many of them critically, and were shifted to hospitals, including Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital for treatment. Rescue teams and ambulances were rapidly deployed to the scene to evacuate the wounded.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Fida Hussain said the explosion occurred near the entrance of Kabal Police Station after officers prevented the bomber from entering the facility. He noted that several sensitive government installations are located in the vicinity of the police station.
Following the attack, the district administration declared an emergency across Swat, directing hospitals, rescue services, law enforcement agencies, and other government departments to remain on high alert and coordinate emergency response efforts.
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, expressed condolences to the families of the victims, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing its fight against terrorism. Authorities also instructed health officials to ensure the best possible medical care for those injured.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing. However, officials indicated that suspicion is likely to fall on the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has intensified militant activities in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent months.
