Colombo, August 26, 2026 – The Europe Today: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has said the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) offer important guidance for humanity in addressing conflicts, divisions and humanitarian challenges confronting the world today.
In a message issued to mark Milad-un-Nabi, the Prime Minister highlighted the Prophet’s teachings on peace, equality, compassion, justice and mutual respect, stressing that these principles remain highly relevant to contemporary society.
Dr. Amarasuriya said the Prophet’s commitment to justice, religious coexistence and the well-being of all people represented some of the most important lessons that could be drawn from his life. She noted that, amid continuing armed conflicts and widespread suffering, these teachings serve as a reminder of the need to place humanity, compassion and peaceful coexistence at the centre of social relations.
The Prime Minister emphasized that such values were particularly significant for Sri Lanka, where people from diverse ethnic and religious communities live together. She called for greater empathy, mutual respect and unity to strengthen the country’s social fabric.
She also expressed hope for an end to wars and violence, offering prayers for those affected by conflict, displacement and humanitarian crises and wishing them peace, security and hope for the future.
Dr. Amarasuriya said this year’s National Milad-un-Nabi celebration at Al Hilal National School in Periyamulla, Negombo, provides an opportunity to reflect on the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad and promote religious coexistence, unity and harmony.
She appreciated the efforts of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs and the organizing committee in arranging the national celebration.
The Prime Minister also extended her greetings to Muslims in Sri Lanka and around the world on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, wishing them peace, prosperity, harmony and joy.
