Baku, September 04, 2026 – The Europe Today: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has emphasized the important role of interparliamentary cooperation in building trust among countries and advancing international cooperation.
Addressing an event at the University of Geneva during her working visit to the Swiss Confederation, Gafarova said parliamentarians could broaden avenues for cooperation by sharing experiences, discussing solutions to common challenges and learning from one another’s practices.
The Speaker underscored that parliamentary diplomacy could help maintain dialogue and cooperation between countries despite differences. She noted that exchanges among parliamentarians could contribute to overcoming misunderstandings, strengthening mutual trust and fostering closer engagement at bilateral, regional and global levels.
Gafarova stressed that lasting peace required more than political agreements, highlighting the importance of security, opportunities, well-being and public confidence in state institutions.
She added that parliamentary diplomacy facilitates dialogue, while sustained dialogue contributes to strengthening peace.
The Speaker described international parliamentary cooperation as a key instrument for promoting peace and supporting sustainable development.
