Moscow, September 9, 2026 – The Europe Today: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Tô Lâm laid wreaths at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow on Tuesday as part of his State visit to Russia.
Tô Lâm, accompanied by his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at the monument located in Ho Chi Minh Square in the Russian capital.
The ceremony was held in a solemn atmosphere, with the Vietnamese delegation honouring Ho Chi Minh, who is regarded in Vietnam as the country’s national leader and a key figure in the establishment of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia.
The Ho Chi Minh Monument at Ho Chi Minh Square is a historic and cultural landmark symbolising the longstanding friendship between the two countries. The monument was inaugurated in 1990 to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Ho Chi Minh.
Later the same day, Tô Lâm and the Vietnamese delegation laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden, adjacent to the western wall of the Kremlin.
The delegation paid tribute to Soviet soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. The memorial, inaugurated on May 8, 1967, is regarded as one of Russia’s most significant memorial sites.
The wreath-laying ceremonies formed part of Tô Lâm’s State visit to Russia, which is aimed at further strengthening the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Russia.
The visit is taking place from September 7 to 9 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and includes a series of high-level meetings and engagements focused on advancing bilateral relations.
