Jakarta, September 16, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed support for Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung’s plan to expand the number of jogging tracks, parks and other green spaces across the capital as part of efforts to improve the city’s urban environment.
“I fully support his plan to create jogging tracks, parks, and so forth,” Prabowo said on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT line at Manggarai LRT Station in Jakarta.
Prabowo made the statement after Governor Pramono briefed him on measures being undertaken by the Jakarta Provincial Government to improve environmental management, including efforts to clean up water bodies across the city.
The Indonesian president said Jakarta’s efforts to organize open spaces and improve environmental conditions were in line with the government’s planned “Indonesia ASRI” movement, which aims to promote a safe, healthy, clean and beautiful environment.
“In a week or two, I will hold a meeting with governors and district heads from across Indonesia, along with regional legislative councils (DPRD), to launch the ‘Indonesia ASRI’ movement,” Prabowo said.
He added that Jakarta could serve as a model for implementing the initiative before it is expanded to other regions across Indonesia.
Prabowo also encouraged local governments and building owners to contribute to increasing urban greenery, including through the development of vertical gardens on large buildings.
“Ideally, this should be an initiative by building owners; however, if they face difficulties, the local government will step in to help,” he said.
Beyond greening initiatives, Prabowo called on regional governments to strengthen waste management and use technology to clean rivers.
“We must transform all provincial and district capitals. Indonesia must transform; eliminate waste, clean rivers using technology, and so on,” he said.
The president assured that the central government was prepared to support local governments in implementing environmental improvements under the “Indonesia ASRI” movement.
Meanwhile, the newly inaugurated Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT line stretches 12.2 kilometers and involved an investment of Rp12.1 trillion. The line is expected to accommodate up to 80,000 passengers daily.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said passengers using the Jakarta LRT would be charged a fare of Rp8 per trip during the first eight days following the inauguration.
