Turkmenbashi, October 9, 2026 – The Europe Today: Russian President Vladimir Putin held bilateral talks with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in the Avaza national tourist zone on Thursday, focusing on key issues related to the development of relations between the two countries.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the meeting took place following an official dinner during Putin’s working visit to Turkmenistan.
According to Peskov, the two leaders discussed major current issues concerning Russian-Turkmen relations, which have continued to develop through regular high-level contacts and diplomatic engagement.
The meeting was held at the Avaza complex, situated along Turkmenistan’s Caspian Sea coast near the city of Turkmenbashi.
Putin and Berdimuhamedov maintain regular communication, including telephone conversations. Their most recent phone contact took place shortly before the meeting, when the Turkmen president personally congratulated the Russian leader on his birthday.
Despite their frequent telephone exchanges, the two leaders continue to use in-person meetings to review bilateral cooperation and exchange views on matters of mutual interest.
Putin last visited Turkmenistan less than a year ago, when he participated in the international forum titled “Peace and Trust: Unity of Goals for a Sustainable Future.” The event was held to mark the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
The latest meeting underscores the continued engagement between Moscow and Ashgabat as both countries seek to maintain political dialogue and advance cooperation on issues of shared interest.
