Beijing, September 04, 2024, The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Wednesday during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing.
During the meeting, President Xi highlighted the exemplary nature of China-Ethiopia relations, describing them as a model of friendly cooperation between China and Africa. He noted the long-standing mutual support between the two nations in safeguarding their core interests and opposing external interference, which has forged what he termed an “unbreakable iron-clad friendship.”
President Xi emphasized China’s readiness to use the summit as a platform to expand pragmatic cooperation with Ethiopia. He expressed support for Ethiopia’s strategic role as a regional transport hub and its efforts to establish a rail-sea intermodal transport network in East Africa. Xi also discussed the creation of a demonstration area for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between China and Africa, underscoring China’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and contributing to Ethiopia’s development.
The meeting between the two leaders reaffirms the strong and growing partnership between China and Ethiopia, reflecting the broader goals of the FOCAC summit to enhance China-Africa cooperation.
