Belarusian PM Roman Golovchenko to Visit Pakistan for SCO Summit

Minsk, October 13, 2024 – The Europe Today: Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko is scheduled to pay a working visit to Pakistan from 15-16 October, NHC has learned. During his visit, Golovchenko will meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

A key highlight of Golovchenko’s visit will be his participation in the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states. This marks Belarus’s first participation in the meeting as a full member of the SCO, having joined the organization in July 2024. Previously, Belarus had been a dialogue partner since 2010 and an observer since 2015.

The SCO, founded in Shanghai, China, on 15 June 2001, is a permanent intergovernmental organization that originally included Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. The organization’s mission focuses on strengthening regional security and promoting economic and trade relations among its members. The SCO adheres to principles of mutual trust, equality, respect for diverse civilizations, and common development under the “Shanghai spirit.” It is committed to non-alignment and openness, emphasizing cooperation without targeting any specific countries or regions.

Prime Minister Golovchenko’s visit underscores Belarus’s growing engagement in regional multilateral diplomacy and its commitment to furthering the goals of the SCO.
