Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Holds Bilateral Meeting with Belarusian PM

Islamabad, October 15, 2024 – The Europe Today:  Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Belarusian Prime Minister Mr. Roman Golovchenko on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) Meeting in Islamabad today. The meeting underscored the deepening ties between Pakistan and Belarus, particularly in the context of regional cooperation through the SCO.

Prime Minister Sharif warmly welcomed Belarus’ participation in the SCO CHG Meeting and congratulated the country on achieving full membership in the organization. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with Belarus to advance the values of the “Shanghai Spirit,” which emphasizes mutual trust, cooperation, and peaceful development.

Reflecting on his productive discussions with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Astana earlier this year, Prime Minister Sharif noted that consistent high-level exchanges have bolstered the relationship between the two nations. He emphasized the need to maintain this positive momentum to unlock the full potential of bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, agricultural machinery, joint production of tractors, and enhancing connectivity.

In response, Prime Minister Golovchenko congratulated Pakistan on the successful hosting of the SCO CHG Meeting and commended the positive outcomes achieved. He expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation, and assured that Belarus would collaborate closely with Pakistan in its capacity as the SCO CHG Chair to advance the organization’s goals and priorities.

Mr. Golovchenko also expressed satisfaction with the current trajectory of bilateral relations between Belarus and Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation in all areas of shared interest through concerted joint efforts.

The meeting highlighted the mutual desire to enhance collaboration in key sectors and to promote regional connectivity, fostering closer ties within the framework of the SCO.
