Tashkent, November 16, 2024 – The Europe Today: First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Norkulov met with Helena McLeod, Deputy Director General and Head of the Green Growth Planning and Implementation Division at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), to discuss ongoing collaborative projects.
During their meeting, the officials reviewed the progress of the project titled “Assistance in the implementation of the Paris Agreement by Uzbekistan and support for joint actions with the Republic of Korea in accordance with Article 6.” This initiative is aimed at supporting Uzbekistan’s economic reforms, fostering conditions for stable development, and aligning the country’s climate actions with international goals.
The project encompasses key areas such as green investment attraction, promotion of climate-adaptive agricultural and forestry practices, strategic environmental assessments, green financing solutions, and the development of carbon markets.
To further their shared objectives, Norkulov and McLeod signed a framework agreement titled “On supporting the transition to a green economy.” The agreement includes a grant allocation of $6.5 million, marking a significant step toward fostering green growth and sustainable development in Uzbekistan.
