Leyla Aliyeva Meets Kenyan President to Strengthen Azerbaijan-Kenya Cooperation

Nairobi, December 21, 2024 – The Europe Today: Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, held a meeting with William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, in Nairobi to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral relations and fostering collaboration.

During the meeting, Leyla Aliyeva conveyed greetings from the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to President Ruto and highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to deepening ties with Kenya. Discussions centered on the work of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, led by Azerbaijan’s First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, and its initiative, “Development of Education and Culture in African Countries.”

Aliyeva emphasized the Foundation’s plans to support projects across education, healthcare, environmental protection, climate change, culture, and educational exchange programs. She also outlined plans for a collaborative presentation of art pieces in international projects, underscoring the importance of cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding.

President Ruto praised Azerbaijan for its successful hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in November. He expressed his admiration for the dynamic growth of Azerbaijan-Kenya relations and the potential for furthering cooperation.

The Kenyan President highlighted several areas for expanded partnership, including climate action, energy, trade and investments, tourism, and education. He acknowledged the pivotal role of state-level initiatives and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s projects in advancing bilateral ties, particularly in education, culture, health, and other humanitarian fields.

On behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, Leyla Aliyeva presented a formal invitation to President Ruto to visit Azerbaijan. President Ruto expressed his gratitude for the invitation and graciously accepted it, affirming his commitment to further strengthening ties between the two nations.

The meeting marked a significant step in reinforcing the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kenya, with a shared focus on advancing mutual interests through diverse and impactful initiatives.
