King Salman Global Academy Unveils Comprehensive Media Terminology Glossary

Riyadh, December 21, 2024 – The Europe Today: The King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language (KSGAAL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Media, has launched a comprehensive glossary of media terms designed to standardize and clarify media-related terminology, NHC reported.

The initiative aims to provide a reliable reference for researchers, journalists, and media professionals, supporting studies in both traditional and digital media, as well as associated fields. This endeavor aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to transform its media sector and establish a unified approach to media terminology.

Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi, secretary-general of KSGAAL, highlighted the academy’s commitment to creating digital dictionaries that enhance scientific research and foster local production at both individual and institutional levels. He noted that the glossary would serve as a unified database, offering accurate sources and digital linguistic data to support developers and programmers in creating linguistic and non-linguistic technical applications.

Al-Washmi emphasized that the glossary reflects the academy’s dedication to producing specialized dictionaries in partnership with government ministries and agencies. He explained that the glossary addresses the significant transformations in the media sector, offering a crucial linguistic resource to interpret evolving concepts within the field.

The glossary encompasses approximately 800 entries, including terms from traditional media such as print journalism, radio, and television, alongside digital media, social media, live broadcasting, podcasts, online journalism, and digital marketing. It also covers contemporary media platforms, audiovisual vocabulary, technical media terms, and emerging concepts in new media. Each entry includes the Arabic equivalent, grammatical category, entry type, meanings, and English translations.

This initiative further underscores KSGAAL’s commitment to advancing the Arabic language in tandem with technological and media advancements, reinforcing its role in supporting media professionals and researchers globally.
