Tashkent, February 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed a report on significant transport infrastructure projects, underscoring the country’s commitment to modernizing its road network to meet growing population and economic demands.
Under the Presidential Resolution issued on October 10, 2023, Uzbekistan’s road sector has undergone modernization, enabling the expansion of construction, repair, and maintenance efforts. A key component of this initiative is the development of modern highways, including an alternative “Tashkent – Andijan” expressway, supported by the World Bank.
The 314-kilometer expressway, once commissioned, is expected to significantly enhance connectivity between the two cities by reducing travel time from five hours to three hours. Additionally, it is projected to boost the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2.6% and decrease road traffic accidents by 40%.
In line with this initiative, an international tender was recently announced for the project, attracting interest from leading foreign companies. During the meeting, President Mirziyoyev reviewed various proposals related to the project and emphasized the importance of implementing alternative highways in other high-traffic areas. The Ministry of Transport has been directed to enhance road convenience and safety while introducing various paid services along key routes.
Furthermore, the President was briefed on a strategic initiative to establish a dry port in the Navoi region in collaboration with the UAE’s AD Ports Group. This project aims to enhance Uzbekistan’s logistical capabilities, facilitating increased trade and economic cooperation.
These developments mark a significant step in Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts to modernize its transport infrastructure, improve connectivity, and strengthen economic growth.
