Qatar Announces Gaza Ceasefire and Prisoner Swap Deal Secured Through Joint Mediation

Doha, January 16, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, announced on Wednesday that joint mediation efforts by Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United States have successfully secured a Gaza ceasefire and a prisoner swap agreement between the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel.

Speaking at a press conference, His Excellency confirmed that the agreement will take effect on Sunday, January 19, 2025. As part of the deal, Hamas will release 33 hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, with negotiations continuing to finalize implementation details.

HE Sheikh Mohammed extended his gratitude to Egypt and the United States for their pivotal roles in advancing the negotiations. He emphasized that Qatar, Egypt, and the United States will collaborate closely to ensure the successful execution of the ceasefire agreement.

This landmark deal is expected to provide critical relief amid the ongoing conflict, marking a significant step toward reducing tensions in the region.
