Alès, April 28, 2025 — The Europe Today: The man suspected of fatally stabbing a Muslim worshipper at a mosque in southern France on Friday has surrendered to authorities at a police station in Italy, French officials announced on Monday.
Abdelkrim Grini, the prosecutor of the southern French city of Alès, who is leading the investigation, confirmed the development, describing it as a significant step forward in the case.
“This is very satisfying for me as a prosecutor. Faced with the effectiveness of the measures put in place, the suspect had no option but to hand himself in – and that is the best thing he could have done,” Grini stated.
Details surrounding the suspect’s identity and the circumstances of the attack have not been fully disclosed, as investigations remain ongoing. The fatal stabbing, which occurred within the premises of a mosque, has prompted widespread condemnation and heightened concerns about the safety of religious communities in the region.
Authorities in France are expected to coordinate closely with their Italian counterparts to facilitate the suspect’s extradition and to ensure a thorough judicial process.
