China, Caribbean Countries Vow to Deepen Cooperation at China-CELAC Forum Meeting in Beijing

Beijing, May 13, 2025 — The Europe Today: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday held talks with foreign ministers and representatives from Caribbean countries attending the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum in Beijing.

The participating dignitaries represent Caribbean nations maintaining diplomatic relations with China, including Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Marking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-CELAC Forum, Wang — who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee — highlighted the notable achievements of the China-Caribbean comprehensive cooperative partnership over the past decade.

“Cooperation in various fields has achieved tangible results, with numerous major projects either completed or steadily advancing,” Wang noted. He added that cultural and people-to-people exchanges have become increasingly active, contributing to mutual understanding and shared development between China and Caribbean nations.

Wang emphasized that Caribbean countries are indispensable members of the China-CELAC Forum. Looking ahead, he called for efforts to deepen political trust, reinforce mutual support on issues concerning each other’s core interests, and enhance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation to help accelerate sustainable and self-driven development in the Caribbean region.

He further pledged that China would expand government scholarships and training programs for Caribbean nationals and continue to provide assistance in areas such as climate change response, while also promoting multilateral cooperation to build a more just and equitable global governance system.

The Caribbean foreign ministers, in turn, expressed appreciation for China’s steadfast support, particularly in infrastructure development, which they said has significantly improved public welfare and strengthened regional economic resilience.

They reaffirmed their firm adherence to the one-China principle, describing it as the foundation of China-Caribbean relations, and expressed eagerness to continue advancing South-South cooperation through the China-CELAC Forum platform.

The meeting reflected growing momentum in China-Caribbean relations and a shared commitment to building a closer, more strategic partnership aimed at mutual development and global equity.
