Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Participates in UN Country Team Meeting

Ashgabat, May 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, participated in a videoconference meeting of the UN Country Team in Turkmenistan, which brought together the heads of UN agencies in the country as well as regional representatives of the organization, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.

The meeting primarily focused on Turkmenistan’s national priorities for the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026-2030. Discussions also explored mechanisms aimed at accelerating progress toward achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the meeting, Minister Meredov highlighted key areas of strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN. These areas include peace and security, socio-economic development, implementation of the SDGs, transportation and energy development, and combatting climate change.

A particular focus was placed on the Turkmenistan-UN Strategic Advisory Council, established in 2024, which facilitates the coordination of the country’s national programs and international initiatives with the UN, especially in political and socio-economic domains.

The meeting also included exchanges on the future prospects for collaboration with specialized UN structures in fields such as sustainable development, transport, climate change, and environmental protection. Humanitarian issues were also addressed, with discussions covering human rights, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the incorporation of best practices in education and healthcare.

UN representatives briefed the meeting on ongoing joint initiatives with the government of Turkmenistan and presented proposals for strengthening the partnership moving forward.

As a result of the meeting, a schedule for upcoming joint meetings and events was approved, reinforcing the continued commitment to advancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.
