Türkiye’s Armelsan, Indonesia’s PT-LEN Ink Underwater Security Deal

Jakarta, June 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkish defense technology company Armelsan and Indonesia’s state-owned enterprise PT-LEN have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing underwater security for Indonesia’s key maritime facilities. The agreement was formalized during the Indo Defence 2025 Expo in Jakarta.

Erdem Tumdag, Armelsan’s Director of Sales, Business Development, and Corporate Communications, stated that the company has successfully implemented various underwater security projects in Türkiye and abroad to protect critical infrastructure and naval ports.

“We will initiate a joint project with PT-LEN to safeguard essential sea-based facilities and areas under naval jurisdiction. This collaboration holds the potential to develop into a future joint production venture,” Tumdag said in remarks to Anadolu Agency.

Armelsan is recognized as one of Türkiye’s leading defense firms specializing in underwater acoustic technologies. Its core expertise includes sonar systems, remotely operated and unmanned underwater vehicles, and underwater sensors used to detect, monitor, and neutralize maritime threats.

Among its innovations is the unmanned underwater vehicle Kaşif, designed for surveillance and the protection of vital infrastructure. Additionally, Armelsan’s suite of underwater sensor systems is capable of collecting and analyzing data to reinforce defense mechanisms.

The company plays a pivotal role in ensuring the underwater security of ports and sensitive facilities, employing systems for diver detection, mine countermeasures, and submarine defense operations.

The new partnership between Armelsan and PT-LEN is expected to significantly bolster Indonesia’s maritime defense capabilities and may lay the groundwork for deeper industrial cooperation between Türkiye and Indonesia in the defense sector.
