Beijing, June 24, 2025 — The Europe Today: Chinese Premier Li Qiang held wide-ranging talks with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who is on an official visit to China, in Beijing on Monday. The leaders reaffirmed the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between China and Singapore, pledging to further strengthen cooperation across a wide spectrum of sectors.
Premier Li highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 35 years ago, bilateral relations have continued to deepen under the strategic guidance of both countries’ leaders, yielding fruitful outcomes in practical cooperation.
“China and Singapore are friendly neighbors and important partners. China is committed to working with Singapore to uphold mutual respect, trust, equality, and mutual benefit,” said Li. He emphasized the need for continued high-level exchanges, enhanced strategic communication, and the consolidation of political mutual trust.
Li noted that China is ready to leverage the bilateral cooperation mechanisms with Singapore to advance joint efforts under the Belt and Road Initiative. This includes expanding and strengthening flagship projects and scaling up two-way trade and investment. He also proposed intensified collaboration in third-party markets and new cooperation areas such as the digital economy, green economy, artificial intelligence, smart cities, and ocean energy.
Premier Li further called for increased people-to-people exchanges in education, culture, tourism, and media, and reiterated China’s support for open regionalism and true multilateralism. He stressed the importance of promoting trade and investment liberalization and ensuring the resilience and stability of global industrial and supply chains.
On regional cooperation, Li expressed China’s readiness to work closely with ASEAN members, including Singapore, to push for the timely signing and implementation of the upgraded Version 3.0 China-ASEAN Free Trade Area agreement, as well as the effective execution of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), with the aim of accelerating regional economic integration.
Prime Minister Wong welcomed the deepening of high-level dialogue and cooperation between Singapore and China. He expressed a strong desire to enhance flagship collaboration projects such as the Suzhou Industrial Park and to explore new potential in fields including the digital and green economies, AI, and biomedicine.
Wong also reaffirmed Singapore’s confidence in the Chinese economy and voiced support for greater coordination with China on regional and multilateral platforms to uphold free trade and the rules-based multilateral trading system.
The meeting marked a renewed commitment by both nations to advance their strategic partnership and to pursue greater innovation and inclusivity in their cooperation agenda.
