China Activates Level-IV Emergency Response Amid Flood Threat in Southwest Regions

Beijing, June 30, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Ministry of Water Resources on Sunday activated a Level-IV emergency response to address potential flooding in the southwestern regions of Chongqing, Sichuan, and Gansu, as a new wave of heavy rainfall threatens to raise river levels beyond warning thresholds.

According to forecasts, these three provincial-level regions are expected to experience torrential rains in the coming days, increasing the risk of floods and water-related disasters.

In response, the ministry has urged local authorities to strengthen real-time monitoring of rainfall and river conditions, ensure timely dissemination of flood warnings, and carry out precautionary evacuations if required to safeguard lives and property.

China operates a four-tier emergency response system for flood control, with Level I representing the most severe. The current Level-IV alert reflects growing concerns about the developing weather conditions and their potential impact on vulnerable communities.

Authorities remain on high alert and are coordinating efforts to mitigate risks as the heavy rainfall continues.
