Islamabad, August 16, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad on Saturday organized the Ethio-Pakistan Green Legacy Dialogue in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Minister of Sindh, aimed at exchanging knowledge and expertise to address climate change, land degradation, and deforestation.
H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia, co-presided over the forum alongside H.E. Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Honorable Chief Minister of Sindh.
Dr. Adefires Worku Gizaw, Chair of the Green Legacy Technical Committee, shared Ethiopia’s roadmap for promoting afforestation, reforestation, food security, and job creation under the Green Legacy Initiative led by H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed. He also highlighted initiatives in soil and water management contributing to sustainable environmental development.
From the Pakistani side, H.E. Zubair Ahmed, Secretary of the Environment and Climate Change, presented the climate change policies and green initiatives undertaken by the Government of Sindh. The forum was held at the Chief Minister’s Office in Sindh.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Dr. Abdula emphasized Ethiopia’s leadership in advancing the climate agenda not only in Africa but globally, promoting sustainable development. He highlighted the adverse impacts of climate change, which threaten lives, livelihoods, and socio-economic progress, particularly in developing nations.
The Ambassador underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan under the Green Legacy Initiative and invited the Government of Sindh to send a delegation to the Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa, scheduled for September 8–10, 2025.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah appreciated the Ethiopian Ambassador for initiating the Ethio-Pakistan Green Dialogues, aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation in environmental conservation and food security. He confirmed that Sindh would participate in the upcoming Climate Summit to further enhance environmental collaboration between the two countries.
