Vietnamese Leaders Call for Innovation and Digital Transformation as Drivers of National Prosperity

Hanoi, October 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: Việtnam’s top leaders on Tuesday underscored that the country’s long-term prosperity hinges on its ability to embrace innovation and digital transformation, urging State agencies, enterprises, and citizens to turn strategic visions into concrete action.

The call was made at the National Innovation Day held at Hòa Lạc High-Tech Park on October 1, under the theme “Innovation for All – The Nation’s Development Engine.”

In his keynote address, Party General Secretary Tô Lâm, who also chairs the Central Steering Committee for Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation, said Việtnam could no longer depend solely on traditional growth drivers, stressing that science, technology, and creativity must serve as decisive levers for the country’s next development stage.

“Việtnam has no alternative but to consider science, innovation, and digital transformation as decisive breakthroughs in changing its development model,” he stated, adding that innovation must permeate not only laboratories and high-tech zones but also state management, business operations, and daily life.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Chí Dũng highlighted that science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation have been consistently defined by the Party and Government as central to the country’s century-long strategy. He emphasized that innovation must become a mainstream policy priority, integrated into economic planning, industrial restructuring, and education reform, supported by closer coordination among ministries and stronger links between universities, startups, and private capital.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính reinforced the message by calling for decisive action and stronger accountability, warning against complacency and bureaucratic inertia. He urged all stakeholders to adopt a “no excuses” mentality, stating: “We must adhere to the principle of three no’s: do not say no, do not say it is too difficult, and do not make promises that cannot be fulfilled.”

The Prime Minister also appealed to international partners for cooperation in legal frameworks, finance, technology transfer, and support for Vietnamese startups, while placing a particular responsibility on young people, scientists, and entrepreneurs to spearhead the country’s digital transformation.

The speeches collectively reflected a strategic shift as Việtnam seeks to transition from a growth model based on low-cost manufacturing and trade openness to one driven by knowledge, technology, and innovation. Leaders acknowledged challenges such as institutional inertia, weak commercialisation pathways, and financing bottlenecks, but stressed that strong political consensus now provides momentum for reform.

By placing innovation and digitalisation at the core of its development strategy, Việtnam signaled its determination to strengthen resilience, move up the global value chain, and secure sustainable long-term growth.
