Hanoi, August 29, 2026 – The Europe Today: Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology has announced the country’s National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence (AI), setting an ambitious target of placing Vietnam among the top 10 Asian countries in AI research, development and mastery by 2045.
The strategy, approved by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng on Friday, seeks to move Vietnam beyond the research, development and application of AI towards comprehensive national transformation driven by the technology.
Under the strategy, AI is expected to become a core national capability, supporting activities ranging from problem identification and design to organisational management and operational processes.
Speaking at the ministry’s monthly press briefing, Nguyễn Khắc Lịch, head of the Department of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence, said Vietnam aims to rank among the top three Southeast Asian countries in AI research and development by 2030.
The strategy projects that the AI economy will account for approximately 6 per cent of GDP by 2030, while labour productivity in sectors applying AI is expected to increase by between 10 and 15 per cent.
AI-related products, services and solutions are targeted to generate around US$5 billion in exports by 2030.
The strategy also sets a goal for approximately 60 per cent of enterprises to adopt AI to improve operational efficiency. In addition, all officials, civil servants and public employees are expected to use AI in their work on a weekly basis by 2030.
Furthermore, AI is expected to support 100 per cent of online public services and administrative procedure dossiers, contributing to more efficient public administration and service delivery.
At the press briefing, the ministry also launched the national one-stop electronic portal on AI and the national database on AI systems at ai.dda.gov.vn.
The two platforms are intended to strengthen State management, improve transparency and support the development of Vietnam’s AI ecosystem.
Lịch said the one-stop portal would provide organisations, businesses and individuals with a single online gateway to complete procedures, submit declarations, access information and communicate with State management agencies on AI-related matters.
The national AI database, meanwhile, will function as a centralised repository containing information on AI systems across the country. It will support monitoring, inspection and greater transparency in AI governance.
2026 “Make in Vietnam” Digital Technology Product Awards
The ministry also launched the 2026 Make in Vietnam Digital Technology Product Awards, aimed at recognising Vietnamese organisations and enterprises producing outstanding digital technology products that are researched, designed, developed and manufactured domestically.
The awards seek to encourage solutions addressing national challenges while supporting Vietnamese technology products in expanding into international markets.
This year’s competition features eight categories covering digital technology initiatives across areas including energy, processing and manufacturing, consumer goods, construction, environment, transport, logistics, healthcare, culture, sports, banking and tourism.
For the first time, the awards will include a dedicated category for Outstanding AI Products, reflecting the government’s growing policy emphasis on developing and mastering AI technologies.
Lịch said the dedicated AI category is intended to encourage Vietnamese enterprises to create high-value-added AI products, strengthen the domestic AI ecosystem and improve labour productivity and competitiveness.
The competition will accept entries from August 28 until October 15, 2026, with the awards ceremony scheduled to take place in November or December.
