Iran and Russia Discuss Strengthening Cooperation to Combat Money Laundering

Moscow, December 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: Iran and Russia have conducted high-level talks in Moscow aimed at bolstering bilateral and multilateral cooperation to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

According to the Iranian Embassy in Russia, Kazem Jalali, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Yury Chikhanchin, head of Russia’s Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring), to discuss expanding collaborative efforts between the two countries and enhancing Iran’s engagement within the Eurasian regional group.

During the meeting, Chikhanchin expressed appreciation for Iran’s contributions and initiatives within the Eurasia Group and affirmed Russia’s readiness to exchange expertise and provide technical guidance to support Iran’s active participation with member states.

The Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism, one of nine regional bodies affiliated with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), recently held its forty-third plenary session from November 24 to 27 in Minsk, Belarus. The event brought together 35 delegations from 18 countries and more than 15 international organizations.

Chikhanchin was also elected to serve as the group’s next chairman for the 2026–2027 term, underscoring the continued focus on regional cooperation in combating financial crimes.
