Jakarta, July 14, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has deployed a warship, elite special forces, and supporting personnel to Vladivostok, Russia, to participate in the Orruda 2026 joint bilateral naval exercise, underscoring the growing defense cooperation between Indonesia and Russia.
Speaking at a press conference at the Navy Headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, Head of the Indonesian Navy Information Service, First Admiral Tunggul, said the Indonesian contingent includes the KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 SIGMA-class frigate, helicopters, Kopaska naval special warfare troops, combat divers, and a specialized medical team.
Admiral Tunggul said the deployment follows the successful inaugural Orruda exercises hosted by Indonesia in the Java Sea in 2024 and reflects both countries’ commitment to expanding military cooperation and strengthening bilateral defense ties. He noted that all participating personnel underwent rigorous selection and intensive pre-deployment training focused on advanced combat operations and interoperability with Russian naval forces.
The KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 and its task group are currently transiting international waters en route to Russia’s Far East, where the multinational exercise will take place from July 7 to August 18, 2026.
According to Admiral Tunggul, Indonesia’s participation in Orruda 2026 is expected to further enhance strategic defense cooperation with Russia while showcasing the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Indonesian Navy on the international stage.
