Ankara, December 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkish defense firm ASFAT has signed a warship sales agreement with Romania, marking a significant milestone in Türkiye’s defense exports, according to defense industry sources on Wednesday.
The deal covers the export of the TCG Akhisar, a warship completed in 2024 at the Istanbul Shipyard Command. This transaction represents the first time Türkiye has exported a warship to a NATO and European Union member state, underscoring the growing global confidence in Turkish defense capabilities.
ASFAT stated that the agreement reflects the high level of reliability, quality, and technological advancement achieved by both the company and the broader Turkish defense industry on the international stage.
The company noted that military cooperation between Türkiye and Romania has now reached “a new level” with this contract, paving the way for deeper strategic engagement.
According to ASFAT, the inclusion of the TCG Akhisar—classified as a corvette—into the Romanian Naval Forces will significantly enhance regional maritime security and provide substantial support for Romania’s ongoing naval modernization efforts.
