Baku, June 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday received a delegation led by Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly (GNAT), to discuss bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation, and collaboration within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
During the meeting, President Aliyev welcomed Kurtulmuş’s participation in the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States, held in Baku, and underscored the significance of the gathering in strengthening solidarity and cooperation among Islamic countries.
The Azerbaijani leader noted that Azerbaijan would host additional events under the framework of the OIC in the future and stressed the importance of further deepening relations among member states.
Kurtulmuş expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the successful organization of the conference, conveying the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to President Aliyev.
President Aliyev thanked him for the message and requested that his own greetings be conveyed to President Erdoğan.
The Turkish parliamentary speaker highlighted the importance of the Baku conference in expanding cooperation within the OIC and praised President Aliyev’s address to participants, describing it as comprehensive and substantive.
The two sides also discussed the significance of the Shusha Declaration and welcomed the continued strengthening of the brotherly and allied relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye across various sectors, including interparliamentary cooperation.
They emphasized that the unity and brotherhood between the two countries are unique and represent a shared asset for both nations. The leaders further noted that the close ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye contribute significantly to peace, stability, and security in the South Caucasus region.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries and explored prospects for further expanding parliamentary engagement and collaboration.
