Hà Tĩnh, December 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: As Hà Tĩnh Province commemorates the 260th anniversary of the birth of the great Vietnamese poet Nguyễn Du, the region is harnessing its rich cultural heritage as both a source of pride and a catalyst for tourism development.
In Hà Tĩnh, the legacy of Nguyễn Du extends beyond museums and textbooks. It thrives in schoolyards, village festivals, and public stages, where his renowned work Truyện Kiều (The Tale of Kiều) continues to be read, recited, and reimagined.
The province has hosted a wide array of cultural activities aimed at promoting the timeless values of Nguyễn Du’s literary heritage while creating distinctive tourism experiences that attract visitors from across Vietnam and beyond.
Nguyễn Du (1765–1820), also known as Tố Như or Thanh Hiên, was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Celebrity in 2013. His masterpiece, The Tale of Kiều, is celebrated as one of the greatest classics of Vietnamese literature, admired for its inventive storytelling, independent thought, and deep reflection of Vietnamese culture.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Hà Tĩnh will host a grand artistic programme titled “Great Poet Nguyễn Du – An Enlightening Heart” at Thành Sen Square on December 20. Over 200 artists from both central and local troupes will bring to life the emotions, fate, and humanitarian spirit embedded in The Tale of Kiều through innovative use of light and music, offering a contemporary interpretation of the literary classic while bridging tradition and technology.
In addition, other activities will include poem recitation, calligraphy, and folk games inspired by Nguyễn Du’s characters and stories. Local communities, particularly in his hometown of Tiên Điền Commune, are organizing folk festivals, enabling residents to actively participate in performances, poetry readings, and community-based cultural events.
Thành Mỹ Secondary School in Tiên Điền has played a leading role in promoting The Tale of Kiều, integrating the masterpiece into extracurricular activities such as artistic contests, performances, recitations, and folk games, fostering appreciation for Nguyễn Du’s literary legacy among younger generations.
The 260th anniversary not only honors the enduring influence of Nguyễn Du but also highlights the province’s efforts to transform cultural heritage into a vibrant tourism and educational experience.
