Tokyo, January 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister of Japan Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday pledged to drive the country’s economic growth, reaffirming her commitment to restoring Japan’s economic strength while speaking at a New Year’s event.
“We will bring back a strong economy,” Takaichi said, expressing determination to “push all the growth switches” in order to enhance Japan’s technological presence on the global stage. She stressed that the government would take all possible measures, including tax reforms, to promote investment as well as research and development activities.
The Prime Minister also outlined plans to increase crisis management investments in key areas such as food and energy security, as well as cybersecurity, underscoring the need to safeguard national resilience amid growing global uncertainties.
Highlighting Japan’s technological potential, Takaichi said there are “untapped glittering technologies” across the country and emphasized the importance of strengthening international competitiveness.
“We will definitely make the Japanese archipelago strong and prosperous,” she said, adding that her administration would work to elevate Japan “to the heights of the world again.”
