Hanoi, January 18, 2026 – The Europe Today: Việt Nam places great importance on and seeks to further strengthen its friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Guatemala and other Central American countries, Ambassador of Việt Nam to Mexico and Guatemala Nguyễn Văn Hải has said.
The ambassador made the remarks at a ceremony on Friday, local time, during which he presented his letter of credence from State President Lương Cường to Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo.
Nguyễn Văn Hải affirmed that Việt Nam is ready to work closely with the Guatemalan government and relevant agencies to promote exchanges of delegations at all levels, enhance political dialogue, and expand cooperation in areas including economy, trade, investment, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. He noted Guatemala’s considerable potential in agriculture, exports, and tourism, and expressed Việt Nam’s willingness to serve as a bridge to foster cooperation between Guatemala and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as the broader Southeast Asian region.
President Bernardo Arévalo congratulated the ambassador on assuming his post and said the Guatemalan government looks forward to working closely with him to advance bilateral relations in a more substantive, effective, and sustainable manner for the benefit of both countries’ peoples.
During his stay in Guatemala, Ambassador Hải also held working sessions with the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of political parties, relevant agencies, and local businesses. At these meetings, he briefed the Guatemalan side on Việt Nam’s current situation, including preparations for the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Việt Nam.
The ambassador emphasized that the congress would be a particularly significant political event, setting the direction for Việt Nam’s development in the new period and demonstrating the country’s determination to continue its renewal policy, deepen international integration, and pursue sustainable development.
Leaders and representatives of Guatemalan agencies and organizations expressed appreciation for Việt Nam’s socio-economic achievements in recent years and conveyed their best wishes for the success of the 14th National Party Congress. They said the congress would help Việt Nam maintain stable development while further enhancing its international role and standing.
While in Guatemala, Ambassador Hải also met with the country’s deputy foreign minister and heads of departments responsible for bilateral relations, as well as representatives of the local business community and tourism authorities, to discuss concrete measures to promote cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, and tourism.
