Baku, March 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: The international community has strongly condemned Iran’s drone attack on civilian infrastructure in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, with several countries and international organizations expressing solidarity with Azerbaijan and denouncing the incident as a violation of international law.
Officials from multiple nations issued statements criticizing the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeting civilian facilities and reaffirming their support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Fergus Auld, described the strike by Iranian drones on Nakhchivan as “completely unacceptable.” In a statement on social media, he said the UK firmly condemns any action that threatens Azerbaijan’s security and reiterated London’s support for Azerbaijan and those affected by the incident.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the targeting of Azerbaijan’s airport and Türkiye by Iranian UAVs, calling the attacks acts of hostility and violations of sovereignty that threaten regional security and stability. Doha reiterated its full support for both Azerbaijan and Türkiye and affirmed their right to defend their sovereignty and citizens.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys strongly condemned the UAV strikes on civilian infrastructure in Nakhchivan and expressed Lithuania’s solidarity with Azerbaijan.
Saudi Arabia likewise denounced Iran’s attempts to target the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Azerbaijan, describing the attacks as blatant violations of international law and universally accepted norms. The Saudi Foreign Ministry said such hostile actions exacerbate regional tensions and threaten security and stability, while reaffirming the Kingdom’s solidarity with both countries.
In Eastern Europe, Moldova condemned the attacks on civilian facilities in Nakhchivan that reportedly injured two people. Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihail Popșoi reiterated his country’s support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry also issued a strong condemnation of the UAV strikes, stressing the urgency of halting actions that target third countries and escalate regional conflict, while reaffirming Türkiye’s continued support for Azerbaijan.
Similarly, Kuwait condemned Iran’s targeting of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, describing the strikes as clear violations of international law and the United Nations Charter.
Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the drone attack on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which resulted in injuries to civilians, represents an unacceptable escalation that violates international law. The ministry reaffirmed Georgia’s solidarity with Azerbaijan, highlighting the strong friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also condemned the UAV strikes on Nakhchivan Airport, describing them as attacks against a brotherly and allied nation.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned Iran’s actions, stating that the attacks demonstrate Iran’s role as a destabilizing force in the region and beyond.
France joined the growing international criticism, with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemning the drone strike on Nakhchivan International Airport and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
France’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Sophie Lagut, also denounced the attack, calling it an unacceptable act against Azerbaijan’s security and territorial integrity that undermines regional stability and violates international law.
The International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO) expressed deep concern over the attacks, emphasizing the importance of protecting civilians and critical infrastructure while declaring its full solidarity with the Azerbaijani government and people.
In addition, foreign ministers and officials from Uzbekistan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Türkiye, Pakistan and Israel held telephone conversations with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov to express concern and reaffirm support for Azerbaijan following the incident.
The statements from governments and international organizations reflect widespread condemnation of the attacks and underscore international support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the protection of civilians.
