China Assures Stable Fuel Supply to Sri Lanka Amid Global Uncertainty

Sri Lanka

Kandy, April 12, 2026 – The Europe Today: Qi Zhenhong, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, has assured that the island nation will not face any fuel shortages despite ongoing global uncertainties linked to the evolving situation in the Middle East.

The Ambassador made these remarks after attending a humanitarian programme at Sri Chandananda Buddhist College in Kandy, where dry rations were distributed to 350 low-income families.

Highlighting the global energy challenges, Qi noted that several countries are experiencing supply disruptions due to the volatile military situation in the Middle East. However, he emphasized that Sri Lanka’s fuel supply will remain stable, with China ready to extend assistance whenever required.

He further stated that in case of any potential supply difficulties, operations could be supported through Sinopec, ensuring uninterrupted fuel distribution across the country.

Reaffirming the strength of bilateral relations, Ambassador Qi underscored China’s continued commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s economic stability and development, particularly during times of global uncertainty.

The assurance comes as Sri Lanka continues to navigate economic recovery efforts, with international partnerships playing a key role in maintaining essential supplies and sustaining growth.
