Suspect in White House Correspondents’ Reception Shooting Identified as Hotel Guest

Washington, April 26, 2026 – The Europe Today: U.S. law enforcement authorities have indicated that the suspect involved in the shooting at a White House Correspondents’ Association reception held at the Washington Hilton hotel was likely a registered guest at the venue, officials said.

Speaking at a press conference, Metropolitan Police Department Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll stated that preliminary findings suggest the individual had legitimate access to the hotel. He added that the suspect is currently undergoing medical evaluation at a hospital and did not suffer any gunshot injuries during the incident.

Police officials noted that the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, while investigators are working to determine the intended target. According to media reports, the suspect was armed with multiple weapons, including a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives.

The incident took place on Saturday evening during a reception hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association, which was attended by U.S. President Donald Trump. Authorities confirmed that no members of the U.S. administration were harmed.

The U.S. Secret Service stated that one individual has been taken into custody, and an investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement agencies continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident as security measures remain heightened.
